Ahh. San Diego. It’s as gorgeous a city as they come, and the number of must-see attractions will fill up any visitor’s itinerary quickly. For those with limited mobility, however, the thought of days spent traversing even just a portion of the city’s 372.4 square miles can be exhausting.
But not to worry! At PA Healthcare, our wheelchair rental offers a perfect solution so you can get around San Diego to see all the wonderful sites this city has to offer.
Whether you’re in town for a short stay or long-term, we offer flexible rental options for various lengths of time. Wheelchair rental will give you the ability to traverse many more miles and experience some or all of the following San Diego attractions.
Bop through Balboa Park
If you’re in San Diego for just a single day or one weekend, Balboa Park provides the largest number of attractions in one location than any other place in San Diego. In fact, there is so much to see in Balboa Park, you could easily fill up a week’s itinerary: over 15 museums, 8 gardens, the famous San Diego Zoo, and multiple performing arts venues! Most of it is easy to navigate, with flat, smooth walkways, ramps for wheelchair accessibility. Most attractions have wheelchair accessible restrooms, and there are also others located around the park.
Shop til you drop
San Diego’s historic downtown Gaslamp Quarter is very wheelchair friendly. You can shop the boutiques and retail stores, browse art galleries, and dine on international cuisine of all kinds. Horton Plaza, the multi-level outdoor mall between Fourth Front Streets has elevators and long-ramps for shoppers in wheelchairs. Most of San Diego’s other malls and outlets are also wheelchair accessible.
Tour by trolley
Old Town Trolley Tours offers one-day tickets that allow guests the unlimited use of their trackless trolleys with on-and-off privileges at 8 different stops throughout downtown San Diego, Balboa Park, and Coronado Island. With 24-hours notice, you can book a spot for a tour on one of their three trolleys with lifts and space for wheelchairs.
Take in a show
Balboa Theater, Humphreys Concerts by the Bay, San Diego Civic Theater, and Viejas Concerts in the Park are among those San Diego’s theater and concert venues that offer wheelchair seating. And hey, if you’re going to book your concert tickets early, you may as well call us to reserve your wheelchair rental before you travel, too. There’s no harm in planning ahead!
Stroll the beaches
Stroll the 14-mile paved trail along Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, and Ocean Beach to take in the ocean atmosphere along with the runners, bikers, skaters, and walkers. Although some beaches provide free wheelchairs, you need to make reservations ahead of time. With our weekly wheelchair rental, you’ll already have one at your disposal, so you won’t need to pre-plan your beach stroll.
View the city by water
Hornblower Cruises and Events offers narrated harbor tours, seasonal whale watching cruises, dinner/dance cruises, and Sunday champagne brunch cruises on their fleet of charter yachts. Most boats feature wheelchair accessible ramps and restrooms. Be sure to inform the staff of the need for wheelchair accessibility when you make your reservation. You can’t beat the views of San Diego from the harbor!
