Comic book convention season is nearly here and it’s time to start planning your costume for all the fun events. For those with wheelchairs and walkers, the search for a creative costume idea can be a challenge. That’s why we’ve put together a list of some of our favorites from years past!
Take one of these great ideas and modify it to make it all your own:
The Iron Throne
Is there anything more iconic in nerd culture today than the Iron Throne from “Game of Thrones”? Converting your wheelchair into a rolling fortress of intimidating iron is enough to make anyone feel like the king of the realm! Move over, Jon Snow!
Yet another prolific symbol of conventions worldwide, the “Dr. Who” TARDIS can be easily recreated using the frame of your rented wheelchair or walker. All that’s left to do is snag yourself a snazzy suit to fit the part. You’ll be the center of attention in your very own police box.
Dragons, Dragons Everywhere!
The children’s series “How to Train a Dragon” became wildly popular over the last several years, and now everyone is getting in on the fun. Add some wings and a tail to your wheelchair or walker and role play the personality of your favorite dragon from the series. Otherwise, create your very own dragon to introduce to the realm.
Transformers and Mech Machines
Some of the most popular comics, TV shows and movies every year feature giant robots battling to the death. No matter which one is your favorite, there are dozens of machines to choose from so you can build your very own. This is one of the most popular ways to disguise your walker for the day.
Comicons always have room for more sci-fi. This year, disguise yourself as one of the ships from “Star Wars,” “Star Trek” or even one of your favorite video games. Plus, there will be plenty of photo ops for fans of your ship design.
Cosplayers with disabilities need not be discouraged when planning costumes. Wheelchair cosplay is becoming more prevalent as we find more and more ways to bring their favorite characters to life.
Here at PA Healthcare, we love to see our clients sharing their cosplay ideas for people in wheelchairs. If you have created a design of your own, stop by our Facebook page and share a picture! Contact PA Healthcare today to learn more about wheelchair and walker rentals in San Diego.
